Day 3 Roundup: Manika, Praneeth Bow Out; Fencer Bhavani Devi Wins On Olympic Debut
It was a disappointing day for the Indian Olympic contingent. The day began on a positive note as Bhavani Devi won her round of 64 match on her Olympic debut but lost in the next round. In badminton, B Sai Praneeth bowed out of the men's singles event even before playing his second match as results in other matches in his group went against him. In doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to the top-ranked doubles team but still have a good chance of making it to the knockout rounds.
In table-tennis, Manika Batra and Sutirtha Mukherjee lost while Sharath Kamal progressed to the third round. In tennis, Sumit Nagal lost in the second round to World No 2 Daniil Medvedev.
Angad Bajwa and Mairaj Khan failed to qualify for the finals of the men's skeet shooting event while the men's recurve archery team lost to South Korea in the QF.
Swimmer Sajan Prakash failed to make the cut for the semi-finals of the men's 200m butterfly event while boxer Ashish Kumar lost in the round of 32 of the men's middleweight boxing event.
