Debunked Video From Madhya Pradesh Revived As Suspect In Jammu & Kashmir's Kathua Case

BOOM had debunked the same video in April 2018 when it went viral with a similar claim.

By - BOOM FACT Check Team | 1 May 2019 3:37 PM IST

Claim

"This is the accused Mohammed Illias who murdered 8 year old (victim's name), and threw her body into the temple to bring bad name to BJP & RSS. Now in Police custody."

Fact

An old video from Madhya Pradesh showing civilians attack a rape accused whilst in police custody has gone viral on WhatsApp and social media with the false context that the man in the video is one of the suspects in Jammu’s Kathua alleged gang rape and murder case in 2018. The misleading post further adds that the suspect's name is Mohammed Illias and the horrific crime was a conspiracy to defame the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The video is actually from Madhya Pradesh and is not connected to the Kathua case. BOOM had debunked the same video in April 2018 when it went viral with a similar claim.
