PK might be Rajkumar Hirani’s weakest film so far, but Aniruddha Guha tells you in 90 seconds why you must still watch it.
The plot of PK revolves around an alien, played by Aamir Khan, whose spaceship lands in Rajasthan. The alien finds itself grappling with questions of identity and religion, eventually holding a mirror to casteism and blind devotion rampant in the country.
2012’s “OMG – Oh My God!” had a similar plot. Scenes showing the alien learning the ways of human beings, and the confusion that comes with worshipping several gods, are interesting and hilarious. The satire format works, even if it may be a little too spelt out at times.
The film also features Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani and Sanjay Dutt. But Aamir Khan’s portrayal of a genius man-child is the real show-stopper. He plays the character with abandon, which translates well on screen.
