The movie has a stellar ensemble cast. Director Anurag Kashyap has chosen actors that look the part. Rahul Bhat, Tejaspuri Kolhapure and Ronit Roy have given strong performances but Girish Kulkarni and Vineet Kumar Singh are the stand-out actors in the movie.
Kashyap has written some great dialogues for really twisted characters in Ugly, and he is aided brilliantly by editor Aarti Bajaj and sound director Mandar Kulkarni.
At the outset, Ugly is a staple ransom and abduction drama. But soon the layers start peeling off and a bigger picture emerges. The film is really a study of human behavior in the face of crime and about how people react to desperate situations.
