A disturbing video from Delhi showing a policeman's son brutally thrashing a woman is viral on Facebook with a misleading claim that the man is a teacher from RMVM school in Valsad, Gujarat.
The 30-second clip documents a horrific assault. The disturbing video has the man speaking in Hindi and saying, "Don’t take his name again,” as he continues to hit her. A man possibly filming the video can be heard saying, "Rohit...stop it" but no one intervenes to help the woman.
BOOM is not uploading the video as it depicts graphic violence.
The video is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that claims the assault happened at Gujarat's RM VM school in Valsad. Several unrelated violent videos have used the same caption in the past in order to go viral.
FACT CHECK
The same video was viral in 2018 and was widely reported by news outlets as a Delhi cop's son beating a woman in a private office in Delhi. News reports identified the man in the video as Rohit Tomar, son of a Ashok Tomar, a sub-inspector in the Delhi police department.
A September 14, 2018 article in the Hindustan Times said, "the police said the video appeared to have been shot by a friend of Tomar at a private office in West Delhi. It was released by a woman, not the person seen in the video, who is said to have been close once to Rohit Tomar."
A story in India Today stated that the woman in the video was traced and a complaint filed at Tilak Nagar police station. In her complaint, the woman alleged that Tomar had raped and beaten her in a BPO in Tilak Nagar area and his friend had filmed the incident.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh had also tweeted about the video on September 14, 2018 stating that he had spoken to the Delhi Police commissioner to conduct a thorough investigation.
