Claim
A video showing gold jewellery displayed on a table has resurfaced with the false claim that it is from a raid conducted by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) at the home of a Muslim woman named Nishka Begum, who allegedly served as the Public Relations Officer at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam during the YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh.
One Facebook post shared the video with the caption: "ED raid in the house of Mrs. Nishka Begum who was public relations officer at Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam during the YSR Jagan government.. see the loot. With such huge pilferage and loot, one can open a Jewellery showroom. Strange how a Muslim lady was appointed PRO of a Prestigious Religious Sanatan Org." The Facebook post can be seen here.
Fact
BOOM had debunked a similar claim with the same video in 2021 and in January, this year.
We reached out to Vellore’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ADSP) KS Sundaramoorthy and Joint Superintendent of Police Albert John, who confirmed to BOOM earlier that the viral video originally showed jewellery recovered in connection with a theft at a Jos Alukkas showroom in Vellore. John further told us that the stolen jewellery was recovered from a burial ground on December 21, 2021. According to a report published by The Hindu, Vellore police arrested 23-year-old TK Raman, a resident of Kuchipalayam village near Pallikonda, in connection with the theft. The report also noted that 16 kg of gold and diamond jewellery worth approximately Rs 8 crore was recovered from him.
