Claim
An old video showing a crowd waving green flags is being shared on social media with the false claim that it shows Pakistani flags being waving during the recent nomination rally of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad, Kerala. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to contest the Lok Sabha bypolls in Wayanad after Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat after choosing to retain Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat.
Fact
BOOM found the flags seen in the viral video are not Pakistani flags. The green flags in the video have a half crescent moon and a star, which represent the party flag of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a political party based in Kerala which is aligned with the Congress. We then compared the flag in the video with both the national flag of Pakistan and the party flag of IUML and found that the green flags waved by the crowd are indeed IUML party flags. The national flag of Pakistan has a similar design but includes a distinct white stripe on the left side. BOOM had previously debunked the same video when it was being shared in April 2024 falsely claiming that Pakistani flags were raised during Rahul Gandhi's roadshow in Wayanad on April 3, 2024.
