Night Curfew Imposed In Melbourne As COVID-19 Cases Surge
The Australian state of Victoria has declared a state of disaster placing the state in a virtual curfew, reports CNN. "Where you slept last night is where you'll need to stay for the next six weeks," Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said in a press conference adding that the state has 760 "mystery cases" where the source of infection could not be traced. As part of the measures, a curfew will be imposed from 8 pm to 5 am and only one person per household can move out of the house to buy essential goods from supermarkets within a five kilometer radius.
Melbourne has reported 10,976 cases of Victoria state's 11,937. The number of deaths is the state is 136.
IT Minister To Self Isolate After Meeting Shah
IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has decided to self-isolate after he met Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday. Although Prasad is not showing any symptoms, he has decided to put himself under self-isolation for precuationary measures.
Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu Show Signs Of Stabilising, While Other States Grow
Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu that had earlier shown an unprecedented rise in cases have shown a decrease in the number of active cases as the number of recoveries are higher than the number of new cases.
States like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Kerala, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh have been actively reporting higher cases.
Insurance Companies See 240% Increase In COVID-19 Claims
Health Insurance companies along with standalone health insurers have seen a 240 per cent increase in claims for treating the COVID-19 pandemic in the past one month, reported Indian Express but these claims only make up for 4.08 per cent of the total infected COVID-19 cases.
Figures collated by the General Insurance Council, apex body for general insurers show that till the last week of July, 71,423 people had claimed Rs 1,145.87 crore towards Covid treatment. This is a sharp increase from the numbers on June 22, when only 20,965 people had made claims for Rs 323 crore.
Karti Chidambaram Tests Positive For COVID-19
Sivaganga MP Karti Chidambaram has tested positive for COVID-19, he announced on Twitter. Chidambaram said that his symptoms are mild and he is under home quarantine.

DGCI Approves SII's Phase 2 And 3 Human Trials For Oxford University's COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate
The Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) has approved the Serum Institute of India (SII) to conduct phase 2 and 3 human clinical trials of the University of Oxford's COVID-19 vaccine candidate, reports PTI. Officials told PTI that SII has submitted a revised proposal on July 29 after the Subject Expert Committee asked for revisions in its previous proposal. 1,600 people over 18 years of age will participate in the trials across 17 selected sites in India.
India's Total Case Count Crosses 18 Lakh
India reported 52,972 new COVID-19 cases taking the total case count to 18,03,695. The number of active cases rose by 11,627 and stands at 5,79,357. 40,574 patients were cured or discharged as the total number rose to 11,86,203. The death toll rose to 38,135 after 771 patients died due to the disease.
IPL To Be Played From September 19 To November 10
The Indian Premier League will be held between September 19 and November 10 and will be held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, announced the IPL. The decision to stage the cricket league in the UAE is still subject to clearances received from the Indian government. The IPL Governing Council will also release the standard operating procedure to hold in the tournament in a bio-bubble in due course. The Women's T20 Challenge will also be held in the UAE and will comprise three teams playing four matches during the IPL playoff week.

B.S Yediyurappa Tests Positive
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. The CM took to Twitter to share that he was being hospitalised for precautionary measures on the recommendation of his doctors.
Earlier, his driver, cook and electrician had tested positive.
Tamil Nadu Governor Tests Positive
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has tested positive for COVID-19, officials from Cauvery Hospital stated. The octagenarian was under quarantine after three staffers at his official resident tested positive. Earlier, 84 others at the state's Raj Bhawan had tested positive.
