Patients who have undergone treatment for mental illnesses are being abandoned by families. Doctors say at least 50 of them have been cured completely and fit to return home to lead a normal life.

Patients are being abandoned as family fears social stigma as well as lack of information of lifestyle of treated relatives.
Moved by their plight, a lawyer filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court for the rehabilitation of these inmates. Supreme Court will take up the matter of rehabilitation of mentally ill patients after its summer break.
