Men's Hockey Team Finish 2nd In Pool A
The Indian men's hockey team beat hosts Japan 5-3 in their final pool A match to finish second in the group behind Australia. A brace from Harmanpreet Singh and goals from Nilakanta Sharma, Gurjant Singh and Shamsher Singh were enough for India to get past the hosts. India will play the third-ranked team in pool B in the quarter-finals.
PV Sindhu Storms Into Semis
PV Sindhu has stormed into the semi-finals of the women's singles event after beating rival Akane Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20. After clinching the first game, Sindhu took a a 14-8 lead in the second before Yamaguchi turned the game around to take a 20-18 lead. Sindhu then saved two game points before clinching the game and the match. Sindhu will face the winner of the match between Ratchanok Intanon and Tai Tzu-Ying.

The Indian women's hockey team have kept their quarter-final hopes alive after beating Ireland with a late goal from Navneet Kaur. India are currently fifth behind Ireland who have a better goal difference. India need to beat South Africa in their final match and hope Great Britain beat Ireland.

Avinash Sable Misses Steeplechase Final Berth Despite Breaking National Record
India's Avinash Sable missed out on a spot in the final of the men's 3000m steeplechase event even though he broke the National Record and posted a better time than three other opponents who qualified. Sable finished 7th in heat 2 and 13th overall with a timing of 8:18.12. He was quicker than the top three runners in heat three but with the race rules stipulating that the top 3 in each heat and the next 6 fastest advance overall to the final, Sable misses out.
Deepika Kumari Into Quarter-Finals
Deepika Kumari survived a tough round of 16 match which required a shoot off to clinch a spot in the quarter-finals. With the scores tied at 5-5 after five sets, Kumari shot a perfect 10 in the shoot off while her opponent, the Russian Olympic Committee's Ksenia Perova, only shot a 7. The World No 1 Kumari will next face the highly-rated An San who broke the Olympic record for highest points scored when she shot 680/720 in the qualification round.
Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat Out Of 25m Pistol Event
The pistol shooting contingent's disappointing campaign ended without a medal after Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat failed to qualify for the finals of the women's 25m pistol shooting event. Bhaker shot 582 to finish 15th while Sarnobat shot 573 to finish 32nd. Only the top 8 shooters qualify for the final.
Lovlina Borgohain Assured Of A Medal
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain has assured India of a second medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games after beating Taipei's Nien-Chin Chen in the quarter-finals of the women's welterweight event. In boxing, all four semi-finalists are assured of a medal with the losing semi-finalists being awarded bronze medals. Borgohain will next face Turkey's Busenaz Sürmeneli for a spot in the final.
