According to the student, Mohd Arif, who passed Class 10 with 9.8 grade points, he had applied for admission in Class 11 in the Amrit Public School. “When I went to get the admission form, I was told to shave off my beard if I wanted admission. I did not comply with the orders and was later told that I have failed in the admission test. When I asked to see my answer sheet, the school authorities refused to do so,” said Arif.
The student has sent letters to local officials and the chief minister, complaining about the discriminatory behaviour. School principal Maya Singh insisted that the boy had been denied admission because he failed to clear the entrance test.
