“One Rank, One Pension” for military veterans was one of the first public promises made by Narendra Modi in September 2013 but has still not been fulfilled. A look at what this scheme is all about.
OROP means that every soldier who retires in the same rank gets the same pension, irrespective of his date of retirement. This scheme will benefit 25 lakh ex-servicemen.
Currently, all pre-2006 pensioners receive lesser pension than not only their counterparts but also their juniors. The disparity has further increased after the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations.
The OROP scheme has been on an endless journey for the past three decades. Successive governments have ignored it or pushed it to the backburner.
Ex-servicemen have been protesting for the implementation of the OROP scheme for the last 66 days at Jantar Mantar. Watch the video to find out why this scheme has possibly still not been implemented.
