Finally, good news for savings bank account holders. The RBI has said that it will remove cash withdrawal limits from savings account in two stages. Speaking in Mumbai, RBI Deputy Governor R Gandhi said the limit will be raised to Rs 50,000 per week from February 20, from the current Rs 24,000 per week. The withdrawal limit will be scrapped from March 13, Gandhi added.
This will come as a big relief for depositors who have faced the brunt of demonetisation since November 8, when 500 and 1000 rupee notes were pushed out of circulation. RBI had already removed the limits for current account, cash credit and overdraft accounts from February 1.
RBI also said Rs 9.92 lakh crore worth of new notes have been brought into circulation as on Jan 27.
"Remonetisation is taking place at a quick pace and the central bank is waiting for more data to see the impact of demonetisation and whether it will be truly transient," said Deputy Governor Viral Acharya.
