Turkish President Warns Muslims Against Birth Control

By - A Staff Writer | 31 May 2016 6:01 PM IST

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken out against birth control and family planning, saying they go against Muslim traditions. He has issued directive which says that no Muslim family should engage in birth control.

Erdogan, a devout Muslim, often courts controversy with divisive public comments. He had previously angered women's groups by stating that women are not equal to men and by urging women to bear at least three children.

The Turkish leader has also raised eyebrows by attempting to outlaw abortion and adultery. Erdogan is blamed by many for trying to change a secular Turkey into an Islamic country.
