Was ‘Mahangai Dayan’ Song Used To Welcome PM Modi In Mauritius?

BOOM found that in the original video people of Indian origin in Mauritius were welcoming PM Modi by singing the traditional Bhojpuri folk song ‘Geet-Gavai’.

Claim: Video shows Mahangai Daayan song sung in front on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mauritius.

Fact: BOOM found that the viral video is edited.

Tools used: BOOM noticed X handle @NetaFlixIndia's reply to a user asking for verification. The handle stated that it's an edited video. Next, BOOM looked for the original video using specific keywords like 'PM Modi Mauritius visit song' and found several news reports detailing that he was welcomed with traditional songs and instruments, including the Bhojpuri folk song 'Geet-Gavai'. PM Narendra Modi had also shared the same video on his X handle on 11 March 2025. A group of artists can be heard singing the Bhojpuri Geet Gavai with lyrics specifically welcoming him to Mauritius.
