4 Examples Of How Food Brands Endanger Your Life

A bite of your favourite burger meal can prove to be quite costly. Wait a minute! It’s not the price that we are talking about. It's your health which is most important. Recently, fast food chain McDonald's was embroiled in a food quality controversy. This is not the first time the so called 'Junk Foods' have grabbed headlines for wrong reasons. Here are 5 MNCs who were in involved in food quality issues.

 

 

1) McDonalds

 

On July 24th, Hong Kong McDonald's pull chicken nuggets out of their menu amid food scare concerns. McDonald's issued a statement saying that they had imported food products from Shanghai Husi between last July to this June and no food items remain in stock. TV Reports had confirmed that Shanghai Husi used expired meat. Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety said that food products imported into the city would be banned for sale. Sarah Casanova, McDonald's Japan CEO apologised to customers and said 'Mcdonald's has now cut all ties with Husi Food and has narrowed its sourcing of chicken to suppliers in Thailand'.

2) KFC

 

In 2012, KFC's hamburger bacteria level was detected and it exceeded the standard level.

 

In 2005, KFC was ordered to pay $8.3 million in damages to the family of an Australian girl Monika Samaan, then aged 7, who was left brain damaged after being poisoned by chicken meal.

 

In 2005, KFC Restaurants in China pulled out certain products as it contained "Sudan Red" dye which was banned as it could lead to increase in risk of cancer.

3) Cadburys

 

In 2004, worms were found in chocolate bars in certain shops in Kerala and Maharashtra.

 

On 22nd May 2013, another instance of a worm was found in a bar of Cadbury chocolate.

 

In December 2006, Cadbury's was asked to pay fine of Rs 15,000 to a man who found worms and fungi in chocolate gifted to a friend.

4) Pepsi and Coca-Cola

 

In 2003, Centre for Science and Environment alleged that Coke and Pepsi contain pesticide levels higher than permissible limits.

 

In April 2012, several batches of Cocal-Cola Shanxi Beverages Company products were found contaminated with chlorine.
