A viral video clip of a woman mercilessly thrashing a minor child has been traced to Jammu's Kathua region. The video went viral as netizens shared it in a bid to identify the woman.
BOOM found that the video is originally from Nagari area of Kathua where a mother was secretly recorded while thrashing her five-year-old daughter.
The video, shot from a bathroom window, shows the mother pinning the child down, punching her and pulling her by the hair as the child cries for help. She can be heard saying, "Papa bachao. (Papa save me)," while the woman continues to rain punches on the girl. Halfway through the video, the background sound of a running tap stops.
BOOM has chosen not to include the video as it is extremely distressing in nature.
Multiple Twitter users, including Tarek Fatah, have misidentified the video as an incident from Pakistan.
The video has been identified to be an incident of Jammu Kashmir's Kathua, where a woman beat up her five year old daughter, as her husband filmed it secretly.
We reached out to Kathua Police, who confirmed that the parents of the child have been detained.
Mangal Singh, a police official from Kathua police station confirmed, "The father, who retired from the army a few months ago,recorded the video from the bathroom. The couple had a dispute, following which the mother vented it out on the five year old."
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, a case has been registered by the Child Welfare Committee.
