Anupam Kher, born on March 7, 1955, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, is an acclaimed Indian actor, producer, and public figure known for his versatile roles in Indian cinema. With a career spanning over four decades, Kher has appeared in more than 500 films across various genres, including iconic roles in movies like Saaransh (1984), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), and The Accidental Prime Minister (2019). His performances have earned him numerous awards, including National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards.
Beyond acting, Kher has been an outspoken social commentator, often expressing his views on political and social issues. He is known for his strong support of the Indian government’s initiatives, particularly those led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), making him a prominent figure in political discussions. Kher has also served as the Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), contributing to the development of cinematic education.

In September 2018, BOOM fact-checked a viral story involving Kher and a video he shared for Ganesh Chaturthi. While Kher did not claim to have filmed the video himself, Republic TV and the Times of India misreported that he celebrated the festival in Uganda.
BOOM found out that the reports were incorrect, clarifying that Kher simply shared an old video and did not celebrate the festival in Uganda as claimed.
