Derek O'Brien, born on March 13, 1961, in Kolkata, West Bengal, is an Indian politician, author, and television personality. He is a prominent leader of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha since 2011. O'Brien is known for his articulate debates, both in Parliament and public forums, often addressing issues related to governance, social justice, and electoral reforms. As the Chief National Spokesperson of the AITC, he plays a significant role in shaping the party’s communication strategy and policy initiatives.
Before entering politics, Derek O'Brien was a well-known quizmaster and the face of the popular television quiz show Bournvita Quiz Contest. His transition to politics came in the early 2000s when he joined the AITC, led by Mamata Banerjee, aiming to contribute to public service and policy-making.
