Doddalahalli Kempegowda Shivakumar, often known as D. K. Shivakumar, is an Indian politician from Kanakpura, Karnataka. He is a member of Indian National Congress and he is currently holding the position of Minister for Water Resources and Bengaluru Development and Town Planning and 9th Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. Shivakumar has also been the President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee since July 2020. His political career began in the 1980’s and was first elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1989 from the Sathanur constituency and has represented Kanakapura constituency since 2008. Shivakumar’s tenure as a cabinet minister in the Government of Karnataka spanned from 2014 to 2019 in the departments such as Water Resources, Medical Education and Energy.
In June 2023, BOOM found a misleading video, showing “Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and deputy CM DK Shivakumar celebrating state election win at a feast”.
We found that the video was from April 2022, when Siddaramaiah hosted an Iftar party organized by Karnataka's housing minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, where Shivakumar was also present. As per the reports of OneIndia and News18 Urdu, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar attended Zameer Ahmed Khan's annual Iftar party on April 15 in Bengaluru, where several religious heads were also present.
BOOM found another misleading video of Shivakumar in May 2023, claiming “Shivakumar was fully drunk during door to door campaigning ahead of Karnataka polls”.
We found that the video was from January, 2021, when Shivakumar participated in the Mekedatu Padayatra, for the implementation of the Mekedatu reservoir project. The full video from Karnataka-based news outlet NewsFirst Karnataka, shows Shivakumar being surrounded by Congress party functionaries, as he walks unsteadily and almost trips and falls too. It was cropped out of the context and shared widely to mislead people.No results
