The Government of India operates as a federal parliamentary democratic republic, managing the governance of the nation through the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches. The central government, headquartered in New Delhi, is responsible for national policy-making, defense, foreign affairs, finance, and other crucial areas. It comprises various ministries, departments, and autonomous bodies working under the guidance of elected representatives and appointed officials.
The Executive is led by the President of India, the Prime Minister, and the Council of Ministers, while the Legislature consists of two houses: the Lok Sabha (House of the People) and the Rajya Sabha (Council of States). The Judiciary, which is independent, includes the Supreme Court of India at its apex, followed by High Courts and subordinate courts. The government has launched multiple initiatives over the years, addressing sectors like health, education, digital infrastructure, agriculture, and economic growth.
In January 2023, BOOM fact-checked a claim by popular YouTuber Vivek Bindra, who asserted that the Government of India issued postal stamps in his honor, featuring his name and image.
BOOM found that the claim was false, as there was no official release of such stamps by the government. Bindra’s misleading claim, which gained traction on social media, was debunked after verifying with the Indian Postal Department, which confirmed that no such stamps had been issued.
