Indonesia, officially known as the Republic of Indonesia, is the largest archipelagic country in the world, located in Southeast Asia. It comprises over 17,000 islands, with Jakarta as its capital. Known for its diverse cultures, languages, and ethnic groups, Indonesia has a rich cultural heritage influenced by Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic, and colonial histories. It is the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation but remains a secular republic with a multi-religious society.

Indonesia has a democratic government led by an elected President, currently Joko Widodo, who has been in office since 2014. The nation has a growing economy driven by natural resources, agriculture, and tourism. Indonesia is also a member of international organizations such as the ASEAN, G20, and the United Nations. Despite its progress, Indonesia faces challenges such as natural disasters, environmental conservation, and managing diversity across its vast territory.

In February 2019, BOOM fact-checked a viral video shared widely following the Pulwama attack in India, which falsely claimed to show Indonesian soldiers overpowering a youth in response to terrorist activities.

BOOM found that the video was a month old, taken in Indonesia, and it was unclear whether it depicted a mock drill or a foiled terrorist attack.
