The conflict between Israel and Gaza escalated on October 7, 2023, when Hamas initiated an assault, leading to incursions into Israeli territory.The confrontation resulted in significant casualties and the capture of individuals. In response, Israel conducted air and artillery strikes in Gaza. The hostilities have led to a substantial number of fatalities and the displacement of residents in the affected areas. This recent escalation is part of a long standing and complex conflict with deep historical roots, dating back to the early 20th century and the establishment of Israel in 1948.

In January 2024, BOOM came across fake news that “the aid designated for Gaza was being discarded in Rafah, Egypt”.

We found that the video shows officials in Saudi Arabia's Al-Qassim discarding expired chicken packets in 2016. It was being shared to mislead the people. BOOM had debunked the same video in October 2020 when it went viral with the claim that the Saudi government was disposing of French products. We had then found that Arabic news outlet Al Arabiya had reported about the same footage in 2016, stating that it shows 25 trucks parked in the Saudi Arabian desert, where workers were unloading and strangely discarding thousands of packs of chicken.
