JP Nadda

Jagat Prakash Nadda, popularly known as J.P. Nadda, born on December 2, 1960 in Patna, Bihar. He is an Indian politician and currently holds the position of the 11th President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a role he has been serving since January 2020. Nadda has represented Gujarat as a Member of the Rajya Sabha since April 2024. At the national level, Nadda was appointed as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the Government of India, from November 2014 to May 2019. Prior to his current role as BJP President, he was the party’s Working President from June 2019 to January 2020.

In January 2023, BOOM came across a false claim being shared by Congress handles that JP Nadda said 'BJP means rape' at a public address in Agartala, Tripura. We found that the viral clip of JP Nadda is doctored, and that he was making those claims against the CPM and not against his party. The cropped video had been doctored to mislead the people and Nadda made no such statement during his address. We checked the BJP's official YouTube channel and found a live stream of Nadda's public address from Agartala, Tripura. His attire in this live stream was an exact match to our viral video.

Another false claim related to Nadda was shared by Trinamool Congress (TMC) that JP Nadda said Rabindranath Tagore was born in Visva-Bharati.

BOOM found that the tweet put out by the BJP's Bengal unit on December 9 misquoted JP Nadda as saying that Tagore's birthplace is Visva Bharati. We also found that BJP Bengal's tweet misquoting JP Nadda had later been deleted. We scanned through the latest replies of the tweets of BJP Bengal and found two replies to the now deleted tweet which questioned Nadda's comments on Tagore's birthplace.
