Jyotiraditya Scindia is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He currently serves as the Minister of Civil Aviation in the Government of India. Scindia is a prominent political figure with a royal background, being a descendant of the Scindia family of Gwalior, a former princely state. Before joining the BJP in 2020, he was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), where he held several key positions.
Scindia was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh from 2002 to 2019 and has been involved in various ministerial roles in both UPA and NDA governments. His shift from Congress to BJP was a major political event, significantly impacting the political landscape in Madhya Pradesh. His defection led to the fall of the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh and helped the BJP regain power in the state.
Scindia is known for his focus on infrastructure development, especially in the aviation sector, and has played a key role in improving airport infrastructure and promoting regional connectivity in India.
In December 2020, BOOM investigated a viral image falsely claiming that TMC's Suvendu Adhikari had joined the BJP.
BOOM found that the image was morphed, with the original photo showing Jyotiraditya Scindia with JP Nadda when Scindia joined the BJP in March 2020.
