Lawrence Bishnoi is a notorious Indian gangster involved in multiple criminal activities across North India, including extortion, contract killings, and inter-gang rivalries. Born on February 12, 1992, in Abohar, Punjab, Bishnoi has risen to infamy for his role as the head of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a criminal organization that operates in states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Bishnoi initially entered the world of crime during his college years and quickly expanded his network, often coordinating operations from behind bars.
Bishnoi gained significant media attention when he threatened to kill Bollywood actor Salman Khan in 2018, in connection with the blackbuck poaching case. He claimed this act would avenge the death of the blackbuck, an animal sacred to the Bishnoi community. Despite being in prison, Bishnoi's criminal network remains active, and he continues to be a significant figure in North India's underworld, with operations allegedly run by his associates.
In August 2023, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) secured custody of Bishnoi in a drug smuggling case, leading to his transfer to the high-security ward of Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He has been moved to different prisons over the years due to the severity of his offenses and the need to manage his influence over other inmates.
In October 2024, BOOM fact-checked a viral video that purportedly showed Salman Khan making threats against Lawrence Bishnoi.
BOOM found out that the video was from April 2020, originally recorded as a public service announcement by Khan during the COVID-19 lockdown, urging citizens to follow safety measures.
