Manish Sisodia, born on January 5, 1972, in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, is an Indian politician and senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He has been a key figure in Delhi’s governance, serving as the Deputy Chief Minister from 2015 to 2023. Sisodia held important portfolios, including education, finance, planning, and urban development, making significant contributions to the city's education system and governance reforms. He is widely credited for implementing the “Delhi Model of Education,” which focused on improving public school infrastructure, introducing innovative teaching methods, and expanding access to quality education.
Sisodia began his career as a journalist before joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in its early years. He has been a close associate of Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, and played a pivotal role in shaping the party’s policies, especially in education, healthcare, and urban development. Under his leadership, the education sector in Delhi witnessed increased budget allocations, the establishment of model schools, and reforms in teacher training, earning national and international recognition.
In February 2023, Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi’s excise policy, a move that led to a political controversy and a debate over transparency and governance in the AAP.
In May 2022, BOOM fact-checked a viral video claiming that Sisodia admitted the AAP was involved in most riots.
BOOM found out that the video was clipped and doctored from a longer version of Sisodia's press conference, where he was presenting survey results conducted by the AAP, debunking the misleading claim.
