Plane crash refers to an aviation accident in which an aircraft, either commercial or private, suffers a malfunction, human error, or adverse weather conditions leading to an uncontrolled descent and impact. Plane crashes can result in loss of life, injuries, and significant property damage, making them some of the most tragic and high-profile disasters.
Globally, plane crashes have spurred advancements in aviation safety, including improvements in aircraft technology, stricter safety regulations, and better pilot training programs. Organizations like the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and various national aviation authorities investigate these crashes to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences. Investigations often involve examining flight data recorders (black boxes), air traffic control communication, and wreckage analysis.
India has witnessed several major air crashes in its history, leading to widespread concern about aviation safety. Despite these incidents, air travel remains one of the safest modes of transportation globally, with continuous efforts to enhance aviation security and safety protocols.
In April 2023, BOOM investigated a viral image that falsely claimed to show the wreckage of the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370.
BOOM found that the image actually showed the wreckage of an abandoned Lockheed Martin L1011 Tristar airplane, which was reportedly sunk in 2019, debunking the claim that it was related to the MH370 disaster.
