Samajwadi Party

The Samajwadi Party (SP) is a prominent political party in India, primarily based in Uttar Pradesh. Founded in 1992 by Mulayam Singh Yadav, it has played a significant role in shaping the state's political landscape. The party’s ideology centers around socialism, focusing on social justice, secularism, and the upliftment of marginalized communities, including farmers, workers, and minorities. Over the years, the Samajwadi Party has championed policies aimed at welfare programs, free education, healthcare, and support for the rural economy.

The party's leadership transitioned from Mulayam Singh Yadav to his son, Akhilesh Yadav, who served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 2017. Akhilesh Yadav's tenure was marked by efforts to modernize infrastructure, including road development, metro projects, and digital initiatives. Despite its stronghold in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has also contested elections in other states, forging alliances to expand its influence.

In March 2019, BOOM fact-checked viral posts claiming that men who attacked Kashmiri vendors were members of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party.

BOOM’s investigation revealed that the attackers were actually affiliated with the Vishwa Hindu Dal, a right-wing group based in Lucknow, not with the SP or Congress.
