Sambit Patra, born on December 13, 1974, in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, is an Indian politician, surgeon, and the National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is widely recognized for his aggressive and outspoken style in television debates, representing the BJP’s views on a wide array of political, social, and economic issues. With a background in medicine, Patra transitioned to politics, becoming one of the most prominent faces of the BJP, frequently appearing in media discussions and public rallies.
Patra has contested elections and has actively participated in the BJP’s campaigns, focusing on issues like national security, economic growth, and social welfare. He also served as the Chairman of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), working to promote tourism and infrastructure development.
In October 2018, BOOM fact-checked a viral quote claiming that Patra called protesting farmers "gaddar" (traitors).
BOOM found out that the quote was fabricated, with no evidence supporting the claim, debunking the misinformation and clarifying that Patra never made such remarks.
