Swami Baba Ramdev, born as Ram Kisan Yadav on December 25, 1965, in Alipur, Haryana, is an Indian yoga guru, spiritual leader, and entrepreneur known for popularizing yoga and Ayurveda globally. Ramdev gained national fame in the early 2000s through televised yoga programs, where he demonstrated breathing exercises (pranayama), yoga postures (asanas), and advocated for a healthy lifestyle. He has been a major figure in reviving interest in traditional Indian practices, particularly Ayurveda, and promoting a holistic approach to health.
In addition to his work in yoga, Ramdev co-founded Patanjali Ayurved in 2006 with Acharya Balkrishna. Patanjali became one of India's leading companies in Ayurveda-based consumer products, ranging from food and beverages to personal care and health supplements. His business ventures have often been seen as extensions of his advocacy for self-reliance and promoting "Swadeshi" (locally made) products.
Ramdev has also been involved in social and political activism, including movements against corruption and black money, as well as campaigns advocating for traditional Indian values. He has voiced support for various nationalistic causes and has been a vocal supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In September 2022, BOOM fact-checked a viral image that claimed to show a Patanjali-branded "Beef Biryani Spice Mix."
BOOM found out that the image was morphed, with the original packaging featuring the brand name 'National,' not Patanjali, debunking the misleading claim.
