Vasundhara Raje, born on March 8, 1953, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a prominent Indian politician and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She has served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan twice, first from 2003 to 2008 and then from 2013 to 2018, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the state. A member of the royal family of Gwalior, Raje has been influential in Rajasthan’s politics, focusing on infrastructure development, economic reforms, and welfare programs. Her tenure as Chief Minister was marked by initiatives like the Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan (water conservation) and the Bhamashah Yojana (financial inclusion).
Raje began her political career in 1984 and has held several key positions, including serving as the Minister of State for External Affairs in the Union Government. Despite facing defeat in the 2018 state elections, she continues to play a significant role in Rajasthan’s politics, serving as the Leader of the Opposition and remaining actively involved in the BJP's campaigns.
In December 2023, BOOM fact-checked a viral photo shared with the false claim that it was taken recently after the Rajasthan state elections results.
BOOM found out that the photo, which shows Raje meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is actually from 2018 and unrelated to the recent elections, debunking the misleading claim.
