Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He is the leader of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), a regional political party founded by him in 2011. Jagan Mohan Reddy is the son of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a popular leader in the state.
Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power in the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, where his party won a landslide victory. He is known for his focus on welfare schemes, particularly aimed at improving the lives of farmers, women, and underprivileged communities in the state. Some of his notable schemes include YSR Rythu Bharosa (a financial aid program for farmers) and Ammavodi (a financial assistance program for mothers sending their children to school).
Before becoming the Chief Minister, Jagan faced various challenges, including legal battles and a stint in prison on corruption charges. Despite these challenges, he built a strong political base in Andhra Pradesh and emerged as a prominent regional leader.
In May 2024, BOOM investigated a viral video that falsely claimed to show Chandrababu Naidu predicting that Jagan Mohan Reddy would return as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
BOOM found that the video was altered, and in the original video, Naidu actually stated that his party, the TDP, would win the election, not CM Jagan.
