Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cara Delevingne Make Political Statements At Met Gala 2021

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wore a dress with the message "Tax the Rich" written on it. However, many pointed out the irony of AOC making an anti-capitalist statement at event which is attended by elites.

Model and actress Cara Delevingne wore a vest which featured the feminist message "Peg the Patriarchy". According to the creator of the term Luna Matatas, "patriarchy has no gender; working to dismantle it benefits us all."

Congresswoman Carolyn B Maloney wore a dress which had "Equal rights for women" all over it while also carrying a purse which read "ERA YES". ERA refers to the 19th Amendment, passed in 1919, which granted all women in the US the right to vote.

American football star Megan Rapinoe carried a purse which had "In Gay We Trust" embellished over it. Rapinoe, a two-time FIFA World Cup Winner, is a vocal member of the LGBTQ+ community and has led the fight for equal pay in women's football in the US.
