Brig LS Lider, Lt Col Harjinder Singh: Casualties Of IAF Crash That Killed Gen Bipin Rawat
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika were killed after their helicopter crashed in Coonoor. Madhulika was the president of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA). The couple are survived by their daughters Kritika and Tarini.
Brig Lakhbinder Singh Lidder served as defence assistant to CDS General Bipin Rawat. Brig Lidder was a counterterrorism specialist and was to pick up his next rank and a division before his untimely demise.
Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Singh belonged the same regiment as Gen Bipin Rawat and served as Staff Officer to the CDS. Lt Col Singh had been involved in operations in the Siachen glacier and also had a tenure with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
Havildar Satpal Rai was CDS Gen Rawat's Personal Security Officer and hailed from Glenburn, Takdah in Darjeeling.
Naik Gursewak Singh belonged to the 9 Para Special Forces and served as CDS Gen. Rawat's Principal Staff Officer. Naik Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Naik Jitender Kumar, who hailed from MP's Sehore district, also served as CDS Gen. Rawat's Personal Security Officer. Naik Kumar is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
Lance Naik B Sai Teja served as a PSO to CDS Gen. Rawat. L/Nk Sai Teja's brother Mahesh also serves in the Indian Army. Lance Naik Teja is survived by his wife and two children.
Lance Naik Vivek Kumar served as CDS Gen. Rawat's PSO and belonged to the 1 Para Special Forces.
Wing Commander Prithvi Singh Chauhan served as Commanding Officer of the 109 Helicopter United at Sulur and piloted the chopper. Wg Cdr Chauhan is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
Junior Warrant Officer Rana Pratap Das hailed from Odisha's Angul district. JWO Das served in the Indian Air Force for more than a decade and is survived by his wife and son.
Junior Warrant Officer Pradeep Arakkal had participated in the anti-naxal operations as well as flood relief work in Uttarakhand and Kerala. JWO Pradeep is survived by his wife and two children.
Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh was the co-pilot of the helicopter. Sqn Ldr Singh comes from a military family. His father served in the Indian Navy while sister Abhita serves as Deputy Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard. Sqn Ldr Singh is survived by his wife.
