India broke its jinxed streak and won its first match in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup against Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Afghanistan won the toss and chose to field first. India seemed in control of the match as KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma forged a strong partnership of 140 runs.
KL Rahul smashed 69 runs of 48 balls, while Rohit Sharma made 74 runs on 47 balls.
Team India set a target of 210 runs for Afghanistan and started building pressure on the rival team. Afghanistan lost its first wicket on 13 runs and managed to make 144 runs against India.
The win comes at a crucial point for India as it was under attack for not being able to put up their best game in the T20 World Cup. Bubble fatigue and IPL was being cited as reason for team India's poor performance in the tournament after they lost two consecutive matches to Pakistan and New Zealand.
