Why Netflix Has Slashed Its Subscription Plans For Indian Users
Netflix has slashed its subscription prices for Indian users which will see them saving anywhere between 18 per cent to 60 per cent depending on the plan.
Netflix's Mobile plan has been reduced by 25 per cent to Rs 149 per month from Rs 199. The Basic plan will now cost Rs 199 per month, down from Rs 499. The Standard plan has come down from Rs 649 per month to Rs 499. The Premium plan will now cost Rs 649 per month, down from Rs 799.
Netflix's move to slash its prices can be seen as an attempt to become as affordable as its rival OTT streaming platforms, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar.
Despite reducing its prices, Netflix is still the most expensive streaming service in India. While Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar offer annual plans, Netflix offers users only monthly plans.
Disney+ Hotstar offers the cheapest OTT subscription plans in India. Netflix's Basic plan costs Rs 1,788 per year while the Premium costs Rs 8,148 per year. Amazon Prime Video, which only offers one plan, costs just Rs 1,499 per year. Disney+ Hotstar's Super plan costs Rs 849 per year while its Premium plan costs Rs 1,499 per year.
