NHAI Set To Use AI Technology For Enhanced Road Safety And Traffic Enforcement
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to harness AI technology in its recent endeavor to improve road safety, enforce traffic rules digitally, and swiftly identify accidents on National Highways and Expressways.
NHAI released its updated policy to implement its Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) Standards and Specifications 2023.
The improvements involve the substitution of the older cameras with the recently introduced Video Incident Detection and Enforcement System (VIDES), which are slated to be installed every 10 km along National Highways.
VIDES will take action based on the detected incident, which may involve alerting patrol vehicles, generating e-challans, relaying alerts to messaging boards, or notifying nearby travelers through the 'Rajmargyatra' app.
Recently launched by NHAI, Rajmargyatra app aims to improve traveller experience on highways by providing them real-time weather conditions, details of nearby toll plazas, petrol pumps, hospitals, hotels and other essential services and timely traffic alerts.
