OpenAI Inks Deal With News Corp: Licensing Content From WSJ, NY Post And Others
OpenAI has entered into an agreement with News Corp, the media conglomerate that owns The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, The Daily Telegraph, and other publications.
According to The Wall Street Journal, this deal could be valued at over $250 million over the next five years, “in the form of cash and credits for use of OpenAI technology”.
The multi-year agreement grants OpenAI access to both current and archived articles from News Corp publications for AI training and responding to user inquiries.
This deal is the latest in a series of licensing agreements OpenAI has secured with major media organisations, including The Associated Press, the Financial Times, Dotdash Meredith (publisher of People), and Politico's owner, Axel Springer.
Conversely, several outlets, including The New York Times, New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune, and The Intercept, have filed lawsuits against OpenAI, accusing both OpenAI and Microsoft of copyright infringement for using their work to train AI models.
