Tom Hanks To Mr Beast: Celebrities Call Out Deepfake Ads Featuring Their AI Clones
The increasing ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate realistic content, such as deep fakes, has been a cause for rising concern.
A string of celebrities have called out the use of their computer-generated renditions created by deepfake technology, in commercials.
Tom Hanks clarified that an advertisement about dental care which appears to be fronted by him is actually an AI version of his. "I have nothing to do with it," he added.
American YouTuber MrBeast posted a similar warning on X, about a video with an AI likeness of him promoting what purported to be "the world's largest iPhone giveaway," but warning people it was totally fake.
Keanu Reeves, who has also been a victim of unauthorised deepfakes, railed against the technology making its way into Hollywood. “What’s frustrating about that is you lose your agency,” he said.
Gayle King, a broadcast journalist with CBS News, posted a warning on Instagram, sharing a snippet of a video that used her AI clone for a purported weight loss product. “I’ve never heard of this product or used it! Please don’t be fooled by these AI videos,” she said.
