At least eight people were killed and hundred others injured after a crowd surged forward while rapper Travis Scott was on stage at the Astroworld Festival in Houston on Friday night.
The incident occurred when the crowd surged toward the stage, crushing those at the front who were unable to escape. Most of the victims were young people, with the youngest said to be just 14.
The surge began around (02:15 GMT Saturday) when panic broke out as the crowd pressed towards the front of the stage during the rapper's headline set. As the crush began causing injuries to people, panic grew. Some 300 people were treated for injuries such as cuts and bruises.
Concertgoers described the event as traumatizing, with many witnesses saying they saw lifeless bodies being trampled amidst the chaos. Those who survived had to fight their way out of the crowd as the music raged on.
Scott, along with Drake, has been sued by a kin of one of the deceased for inciting the crowd which led to the accident.
Scott has said he is working to help victims' families, but several concert-goers are suing him and the promoters for damages. Houston police Chief has told reporters that the investigation into the tragedy would include the homicide and narcotics divisions. Teams will review video from the scene to explore the causes of the surge and what had prevented people from being able to escape.
