Covid-19 Pandemic Is Changing, Not Over Yet: WHO Warns As Cases Rise in 110 Countries
The World Health Organisation (WHO) said that the Covid-19 Pandemic is far from over. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "This pandemic is changing, but it is not over".
He continued, saying "Our ability to track the COVID-19 virus is under threat as reporting and genomic sequences are declining meaning it is becoming harder to track Omicron and analyse future emerging variants".
Looking at the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths, Ghebreyesus said, "COVID-19 global cases are increasing by 20 per cent and deaths have risen in three of the six WHO regions".
Cases have spiked up in 110 countries. WHO believes that the two fast-spreading Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5 are the driving force behind this.
The WHO chief also voiced his concern about the slow-paced vaccination drive in low-income countries as the population of these countries are more vulnerable to future variants of Covid-19.
