After Being Dropped For Tests, Wriddhiman Saha Shares 'Insulting' WhatsApp Chats From Journalist
Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was dropped from India's Test side for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Saha revealed that he had been told by the team management that India will be looking to groom younger wicketkeepers as Rishabh Pant's backup.
Saha also said that coach Rahul Dravid and chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma told him that he won't be considered for future Test series as they want to "look at new faces and if we bring in a new face".
Saha also told the Indian Express that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly sent him a WhatsApp message after his match-saving 61 against New Zealand in 2021 stating "As long as I’m here (helming the BCCI), you would be in the team".
After announcing the squad for the Sri Lanka Test series, Sharma told the media that the doors were open to Saha to come back to the Indian side and had encouraged him to play in the Ranji Trophy.
Saha disputed Sharma's claim stating that he had been told he would not be considered for the Indian team "from now on".
Stating that he respected Saha's achievements and contributions to Indian cricket, India coach Rahul Dravid stated that the wicketkeeper deserved honesty and clarity and that he was not hurt by Saha going public.
"I'm not hurt about it at all because I don't expect players to agree with everything I have to say about them. When you have difficult conversations with players you don't always expect them to agree with you or like you, but that doesn't mean you brush it under the carpet and don't have the conversations," Dravid said.
