An old video from August 2023 showing the Indian men's relay team breaking the Asian record clocking a timing of 2 minutes 59.05 seconds to qualify for the final round of the World Athletics Championships is being shared falsely claiming that it is from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The viral video was posted by Kiran Bedi on X with the caption, "India makes it to finals. Have a look. #OlympicGames"
Fact
BOOM found that the viral video is old and that the event actually occurred at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August 2023. We ran a keyword search and found that the original 4.14-minute video is of the Indian men's 4x400m relay team surpassing teams such as Great Britain and Japan. They secured second place, just behind the United States, with a time of 2 minutes 59.05 seconds, thereby qualifying for the final round of the World Championships. BOOM had previously debunked the same video in June 2024 when it was viral. Athletics events at the Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to begin from August 1 to August 11, 2024.
