Should Dhoni Attack or Play Safe?

By - A Staff Writer | 26 July 2014 12:38 PM IST

After the victory at Lord's and going up 1-0 in the 5-test India-England series, should India go for 5 bowlers or play safe and defend the lead?

BoomNews's show #Cricket-O-Mania discussed the issue with cricket expert and co-host Ayaz Memon, journalist Abhishek Dubey and former Mumbai captain Milind Rege.

Memon said apart from taking wickets, Indian bowlers are also scoring runs.

Rege said it is time for India to go with five bowlers. "Dhoni does not seem to be happy batting at No 6. Management could think of adding a spinner."

With three matches left, it is better to attack, Dubey said.

England is not the team we have seen over the last couple of years, Rege said, and added that they are not attacking the Indian batsmen. "So, we should play attacking cricket."

England beat us in India in 2012 after India won the first test, Memon said. "So, becoming casual can be damaging. We have to retain our agression and try and go up 2-0 in the next match. Three fast bowlers and two spinners would be a balanced attack."

Dubey felt that it would be useful to get in Rohit Sharma in place of Stuart Binny for the next match.

While Dhoni batting at No 6 shows his intent to win, Rege added that England does not have a match-winning batsman now.
